After participating in numerous prayer retreats that culminated in a 40-day Silent Retreat (Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius at Loyola House, Guelph), Barbara answered God's call to enter the ministry. She entered Emmanuel College and graduated with a Master of Divinity in 2000. As a student minister, Barbara’s internship was at our neighbouring Carlisle/ Kilbride pastoral charge. Barbara also served at her home church of Westminster United Church in Mississauga, both as a student minister and after ordination in the area of Pastoral Care. Following her studies, the Settlement Committee placed Barbara at Trinity United where she ministered from 2000 to 2004. Trinity United was a church set in the midst of the multicultural community of Malton in Mississauga.
On October 25th, 2004, Barbara accepted a Presbytery appointment to Lowville and Nelson churches to help us through a transition period as both churches discerned whether God was calling us to unite into a 2-point charge. We warmly welcomed Barbara and her husband, Dale Dutton, into our joint family of faith, grateful for the gifts she offered.
Since that time, Barbara has led our congregations in growth by helping to provide a warm welcoming place, where people can come for spiritual nurturing, and in Barbara's words" by sharing the love and joy we are so freely given through God's generous sharing with us."
We have now completed our transition period and, on May 7th, 2006, the congregations of both Lowville and Nelson United Churches voted unanimously to unite our ministries into the 2-point charge of Lowville-Nelson United Ministries of The United Church of Canada.
Rev. Morrison now remains with us as we continue our journey of faith, seeking God’s will for us as two churches united in ministry in North Burlington.
